Ophea's 2008/2009 DPA Training & Support Services Subscription

Ophea is pleased to announce our 2008/2009 Daily Physical Activity Training & Support Services in our continued efforts to support school boards in fulfilling Daily Physical Activity (DPA). These services are available to school boards on a subscription basis.  Additional non-subscription supports are also available.   

Ophea's DPA Training & Support Services aim to provide quality services educators, schools and school boards.  This year's subscription emphasizes professional development, training, consultative expertise and classroom supports. These are designed to meet the needs identified by educators and the requirements set out by the Ministry of Education's renewed funding.

Highlights from the 2008/2009 subscription:

• The opportunity for subscribing boards to have input into the content, audience and timing of this year’s professional development opportunities.
• In response to the strong recommendation that educator’s need hard copy versions of the DPA Activity Cards, this year’s subscription provides hard copies of the DPA Activity Cards to all teachers in subscribing schools boards (as well as access to electronic copies).
• To address educator’s challenges around time and priorities, this year’s cards will be cross-curricular, with a focus on connecting DPA to numeracy and literacy.

• New and innovative Supplementary Resources to enhance the use of the cards.

Ophea's Fabulous Fifty Activity Card Set

This resource will save you time and provide quality DPA support. Great for new teachers and teachers new to DPA! Each package includes 5 different activity cards from the 2006/2007 DPA Activity Cards for either Primary, Junior or Intermediate divisions for 10 months.  Please note the month of November features a Chair Aerobics Poster which is suitable for all three divisions.  Each card includes a warm up, an activity, a cool down and safety considerations. 

Also included in your purchase is access to the online 2006/07 supplementary materials (e.g., missions sheets, fitness stations cards, etc.) to support the use of these cards. The Fabulous Fifty Activity Card Set is available to school boards subscribing to the 2007/08 Ophea DPA Services for $25 and to non-subscribers for $30.

Ophea's Movin' Music for DPA

Ophea has developed a music CD appropriate for DPA, consisting of 21 tracks of motivational music – that's over 70 minutes of music! The CD is suitable for Primary, Junior and Intermediate divisions.

The CD is available for purchase for only $15.00!

Music is an excellent motivator for students when they participate in Daily Physical Activity (DPA). This music has been selected to accompany specific activities from Ophea's 2007-2008 DPA Training & Support Services subscription as referenced on the DPA Activity Cards.  However, the music can also be used to accompany any DPA activities you implement.

Asthma and DPA

• What Educators Need to Know about Daily Physical Activity (DPA) & Asthma Resource Folder is designed to increase the knowledge of educators about asthma management and prevention in schools, specifically with respect to DPA. The Resource Folder includes information and a poster about DPA & Asthma inclusion and an order form to request free Ophea Asthma Education Initiative brochures/fact sheets. 15 copies of the Resource Folders have been sent to every elementary school in January 2007. Ask your principal where your school's copies are and share the Resource Folders with other educators in your school.

• Asthma Communications Support Package: An Asthma Communications Support Package was developed by Ophea in consultation with the Public Health School Pilot Project and contains information that can be used by schools, school boards, and public health representatives to inform and increase asthma awareness within their school community.  The package includes practical key messages, communication tools and templates, newsletter articles, school-wide asthma awareness activities to support World Asthma Day and much more. Each page has been formatted to allow for school boards, schools and individual educators to reproduce the information and share with all members of the school community.
