Dog Catcher

Grade:
Primary
Facility:
Gymnasium or outdoors
Materials:
Index cards or coloured paper
Activity Description:
Come rain or shine on a September day, this fun and dynamic game will keep your students active indoors or outside.
Overview:
  • Establish the boundaries before the activity begins.
  • Divide students into four teams and give each team a different colour pinnie (or piece of paper) which represents which color ‘dog’ team they are on.
  • Put the students in four areas of the field, indicated by a pylon. This pylon will become their group’s doghouse.
  • The students move around the playing field mingling with the other dogs.
  • Call out one of the colours, e.g., red dogs. The red dogs will now become the dogcatchers and try to catch as many other dogs as they can.
  • Once a dog is caught, they go back to their doghouse and jump up and down while barking.
  • The game is repeated calling a different colour dog each time. Each time a new colour is called, all dogs are free.
  • The turn around time should be very short to keep the game fast paced and to keep the students “out of the doghouse".
