Ophea in partnership with many organizations and school boards has developed a series of grade-by-grade curriculum support resources, Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum Support: Kindergarten to Grade 10. If you are associated with a district school board, contact your board office and speak with an appropriate representative. Elementary Time Allotment for Health and Physical Education

Here is a detailed example of how the Thames Valley District School Board has allocated time to include 180 minutes of physical education and dance and 40 minutes of health per week.

Literature Lists

A list of books that can be used to reinforce health topics while focussing on literacy is available for download:

This list of books was compiled as part of a Masters Thesis entitled "A Literature Based Approach to Health Education- Developing Resiliency Skills through Literature" by Myra Stephen. The books are all Canadian, were published from 1990 onward and were selected based on how they could be used as examples of resilency skills with students. Links were made to the healthy living curriculum expectations and to the language curriculum expectations. The codes refer to curriculum expectation.
