Daily Physical Activity (DPA)

Since the Ministry of Education introduced Daily Physical Activity (DPA) to elementary schools as a part of the government’s Healthy Schools Program, and Ophea has been involved every step of the way.

Ministry of Education Policy

In October 2005 the Ontario Ministry of Education announced that every elementary student will take part in a minimum of 20 minutes of DPA as part of the government's Healthy Schools Program.

Twenty minutes of Daily Physical Activity are critical to making publicly funded schools healthier places to learn and improve student achievement. This step in the government’s Healthy Schools Plan ensures that elementary students have a minimum of 20 minutes of sustained moderate to vigorous physical activity each school day.

Ophea & DPA

Ophea has been a long time supporter of DPA and was pleased to work in partnership with the Ministry of Education to develop the DPA Resource Guides (2005), for all teachers, principals and school board administers.

To complement these Guides and to help fulfill the mandate, Ophea’s DPA Training & Support Services Subscription was developed in 2006 to provide needed support to Ontario schools and a coordinated effort province-wide that would allow for a collaborative, consistent and quality approach to implementing and sustaining DPA.

Ophea’s DPA Training & Support Services Subscription included DPA Activity Cards, sent directly to schools, Supplementary Resources such as music CDs, DVDs and visual aids, and professional development opportunities.

Ophea is now offering quality DPA supports to individuals. To learn more click here.
