Connecting Ophea's Programs to Healthy Schools

The Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health Promotion are challenging all publicly funded elementary and secondary schools in Ontario to build healthier learning environments for the children and youth of Ontario, by encouraging Ontario schools to participate in the Healthy Schools Recognition Program – schools were encouraged to apply by April 16th, 2009.

Many schools are already using Ophea's resources and programs and are on their way to making their school a healthier one! If your school is one of these schools, congratulations, you are on your way to being recognized as a Healthy School. If you have not started building your Healthy School, consider choosing an Ophea program to start building a healthier learning environment for your students and participating in Ontario's Healthy Schools Recognition Program. Research shows that a healthy school environment supports student success.

Your school will be recognized by the Premier, Minister of Education and Minister of Health Promotion after successfully meeting the outlined components in the Foundations for a Healthy School Framework, developed by the Ministry of Education. Each of the components covers health-related topics within a broad framework. As your school begins to meet each component, you will be on your way to building your Healthy School. Recognized schools will receive a certificate and pennant. A list of participating schools will also be posted on the Ministry of Education's website.
