Coaching Today's Youth and Tomorrow's Physical Activity Leaders

Kathy Brook, a H&PE teacher unofficially dubbed her Grade 12 Fitness and Recreation Leadership (PLF4CI) course “Coaching” because she believes that a coaching concept can help teachers incorporate a practical application of leadership, fundamental skills development and mentorship. FUNdamental Movement

RotM-image-JL09The newest National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) program: FUNdamental Movement Skills, delivered by the Coaches Association of Ontario, contains twelve forty-five minute physical activity lessons which can be tailored to fit a typical high school class period. Lessons teach students about fair play, safety, ethics, responsibility and the “FUNdamental movement skills” - throwing, hopping, skipping, jumping, kicking, striking, balancing, catching, and agility. The resource aims to ensure all children and youth learn to move confidently and adopt a healthy attitude towards physical activity and sport.
