LAFL Concept Test Evaluation – Summary of Results

Sample:

Educators, public health representatives, and key stakeholders in tobacco prevention who participated in concept testing for a revised Lungs Are for Life program in 2007/2008.

What the respondents had to say:

  • Respondents were very pleased to hear that the program would be updated and modernized to keep it current. They also urged that, regardless of any other changes that are being considered, Lungs Are for Life maintain its core strength in curriculum.
  • Respondents expressed enthusiasm about the the comprehensive school health philosophy — and understood that this could be far more effective than simply delivering a no smoking message in health and physical education classes.
  • Several respondents requested that the program be expanded to cover the whole spectrum of the tobacco issue including prevention, cessation and the impact of second-hand smoke.
  • Many respondents felt that the new program would create new and expanded opportunities for secondary school students to show peer-to-peer leadership, and role modeling for younger students.
  • Public health professionals agreed that when students are exposed to the same message from a variety of sources and also see healthy living modelled in a variety of environments, the the program will become even more effective.
  • All respondents praised the curriculum and the success of Lungs Are for Life to date. All understood that it is time to update the core materials and commented that two things were critical in the update: 1) it must fit within the curriculum that is currently being updated and 2) anything that is added or updated must be very easy to use.

Thank you to all who participated, your time and effort was greatly appreciated!
