Early Learning Resource

Ophea’s Early Learning Resource is a free online resource that assists kindergarten teachers, early childhood educators, and early-learning teams with the implementation of the Health and Physical Activity learning area of the Full-Day Early-Learning Kindergarten Program 2010-2011 (draft version).

Through Ophea’s Early Learning Resource, children are given the opportunity to develop physical literacy and health literacy skills that will be the foundation for their future learning. This resource will encourage children to establish positive attitudes and an appreciation for lifelong participation in order to lead healthy, active lives.

This online resource includes high quality, easy-to-implement activities, using everyday materials/equipment, and information on safety considerations, learning goals, and curriculum links.

Five activities are included within 10 different units: Introductory Activities and Cooperative Games, Kicking, Rolling and Bouncing, Throwing and Catching, Travelling, Jump, Land and Balance, Creative Movement, Personal Safety, Healthy Eating, and The Body and Hygiene. All activities can either be viewed on the website or downloaded and printed. Also included is an Anecdotal Recording Tool template for assessment.

Additional information is provided on Learning through Play, Program Planning, Instruction and Assessment Planning, Differentiated Instruction, and Social and Environmental Considerations.

This resource was developed, reviewed and tested by experts in the field and Early-Learning Kindergarten teams across Ontario.

The Ophea Early Learning Resource is available in French and English.
