Active Schoolsis a fun, free program for Kindergarten to Grade 8, designed to motivate and recognize school communities -teachers, parents, students, and community leaders- for getting up, moving and making the commitment to leading active, healthy lives.

Directly linked to the Active Participation Strand of the Ontario H&PE Curriculum, the six-level Active Schools program assists school communities in adopting, implementing and maintaining physical activity programs that support the capacity for children and youth to lead healthy lifestyles.

Active Schools is managed by Ophea and supported by the Government of Ontario. Ophea works to provide Ontario school communities with the means to ensure that the environment where children live, learn and play encourages active, healthy living in a manner that is meaningful and fun.

The Active Schools program is a six level program based on the word "ACTIVE". Each letter represents a different category:

Involvement

Values

Education

When schools participate in different activities (such as sports clubs, theme days, etc.) under each category they are eligible to complete a level.

Registered schools receive FREE materials to implement the Active Schools Program. The materials are flexible, adaptable, and easy-to-use.
