Ophea’s Daily Physical Activity (DPA) supports ensure a comprehensive and quality approach to implementing and sustaining DPA across Ontario.
2008/09 supports include:
1. Ophea’s DPA Training and Support Services
Available to school boards on a subscription basis. This is the third year of these services and this year’s subscription emphasizes professional development, training, consultative expertise and integrated learning classroom supports.
Highlights from the 2008/2009 subscription:
Monthly DPA Activity Cards for the 2008/09 school year. This year the concept of Integrated Learning was applied in developing the DPA Activity Cards. Look out for the first set of Cards arriving in September.
Three supplementary resources to enhance the use of the DPA Activity Cards will be supplied to each school throughout the school year. The first supplementary resource is available now to subscriber on the DPA Subscribers’ Section.
Access to the DPA subscriber-only section on www.ophea.net/dpa which houses the DPA Teacher Resource Database.
Two web-based workshops are on the subscriber-only section.
Make sure that you and your school have the supports needed to implement DPA. Ask your school board contact if your school board has subscribed.
2. Ophea’s DPA Activity Card Set Volume 2
This set of the 2007/2008 Ophea DPA Activity Cards includes a copy of the 50 Fitness Activities Support in chart format and 20 activity cards for either Primary, Junior or Intermediate. Volume 2 follows the 2006/07 Fabulous Fifty DPA Activity Cards, as the next edition of activity cards available at cost from Ophea. Collect all the cards and build your own inventory of DPA activities.
3. Ophea’s Movin’ Music CD
Music is an excellent motivator for students when they participate in DPA. Ophea has developed a music CD appropriate for DPA, consisting of 21 tracks. The CD contains songs suitable for Primary, Junior and Intermediate divisions. The CD is available for purchase for $15.00
How We Live, How We Learn,
and How We Work: Implications for the Prevention and Treatment of
Childhood Obesity – will take place from October 2-4, 2008 at the Coast
Plaza Hotel & Suites, Vancouver, British Columbia.
This conference brings together an interdisciplinary group of
professionals who work in the field of childhood and adolescent obesity
or are confronted with this growing problem. The sessions have been
proposed based on a framework of living (home/community environment),
learning (school environment) and working (work environment) and how
these settings are associated with childhood obesity.
