Background
Vibrant FACES (Fun, Active, Confident, Energetic Self-images) is designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle to adolescent females in Grades 7 and 8.
Current research indicates that adolescent females are dropping out of physical education, sport and physical activity at alarming rates. Some of the barriers to participation experienced by young women include perceived incompetence/low self-esteem, a poor body image and lack of motivation. Vibrant FACES has, therefore, been designed to help girls develop the skills to overcome these barriers and lead active, healthy lifestyles.
Directly linked to the Active Participation strand of the Ontario Health and Physical Education Curriculum, Vibrant FACES uses Fun, Active, Confident, Energetic Self-images to provide adolescent females with an opportunity to improve themselves in three distinct categories: physical activity, body image, and self image.
Vibrant FACES is provided free of charge to schools and is available in English and French. It contains a user-friendly Teacher’s Guide, Student Guide, and product samples from the participating sponsors.
Vibrant FACES was developed by Procter and Gamble Inc. and is endorsed and promoted by Ophea and PHE Canada* (Physical and Health Education Canada).
