Overview
Vibrant FACES (Fun, Active, Confident, Energetic Self-images) is designed to promote a healthy, active lifestyle
to adolescent females in Grades 7 and 8 by addressing issues
such as perceived incompetence, self-esteem, body image, and motivation.
Directly linked to the Active Participation strand of the Ontario
Health and Physical Education Curriculum, Vibrant FACES
uses Fun, Active, Confident, Energetic Self-images to provide
adolescent females with an opportunity to improve themselves
in three distinct categories: physical activity, body image, and
self image. Vibrant FACES is provided free of charge to schools
and is available in English and French. It contains a user-friendly teacher/leader event guide, student guidebooks, and product
samples from the participating sponsors.
Vibrant FACES is provided by the manufacturers of Always and Tampax products and is endorsed and promoted by Ophea and
the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education,
Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD).

Activity Idea: Soccer
Find your smile through a soccer-based activity! The following activity is targeted to build competence and confidence and can be found in the Vibrant FACES Instructor’s Booklet.
Kickout!
This is all about ball control and being the last one left. Mark an area approximately 10 metres square. All students start inside the square, and each has a ball. On the teachers signal the students begin dribbling inside the square, keeping close control of their own ball while trying to kick the balls of other players out of the square. If a student gets her ball kicked out of the square, she must dribble the ball around the area 3 times before re-entering the square and continuing.
For more activities and a breakdown of the basic skills which will provide the tools for participation, please refer to the Vibrant FACES Instructor’s Booklet.

Vibrant Faces FAQs
Why is this program important?
Current research indicates that adolescent females are dropping out of physical education, sport and physical activity at alarming rates. Some of the barriers to participation experienced by young women include perceived incompetence/low self-esteem, a poor body image and lack of motivation. Vibrant FACES has, therefore, been designed to help girls develop the skills to overcome these barriers and lead active, healthy lifestyles.
Why should I use this program?
Vibrant FACES reflects current educational thinking and uses a variety of methods to accommodate the different learning styles of pre-high school students. The program helps meet the outcomes for physical and healthy educations. In addition, many of the health events support family studies, guidance and life-skill outcomes. The program also integrates with language arts.
What are the time requirements for this program?
It will take approximately six 40 to 50-minute sessions to cover the core components of the health-related activities. The Vibrant FACES Activities can also be covered in six 40 to 50-minute sessions.
