5 tips to get you connected with nature this summer!
The weather is warm and the sun is shining. It’s the perfect time to get outside, get healthy, and get active. There are plenty of ways to enjoy summer in nature this year. Here are five suggestions.
1. Visit a provincial park:
Ontario has over 280 provincial parks for you and your family to explore this summer. Hiking, camping, bird watching, rock climbing, and mountain biking are just some of the things you can do. Learn more about Ontario’s provincial parks and find out which one is closest to you!
2. Visit a pick-your-own farm:
Summertime means an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables are in season and ready to be picked…by you! There are plenty of pick-your-own farms across the province of Ontario, each with their own unique selection of fruits and vegetables, as well as other activities such as corn mazes and hay rides. The Ontario Pick-Your-Own website has a full list of available farms.
3. Connect with community members to support a charity walk/run marathon:
Spend a part of your summer supporting a good cause. Volunteer at one of the many walk/run marathons the province of Ontario has to offer – or maybe you have extra energy to burn and would like to participate! Learn more about walk/run marathons in Ontario.
4. Visit a beach:
It’s not summer without a trip to the beach! Go for a swim, learn how to paddleboard, take a boat tour, or participate in a sand castle-building competition. There’s something for everyone at the beach. Learn more about Ontario’s beaches.
5. Join a local outdoor sports team:
Get active this summer by joining a local sports team. There are plenty of sports that can be enjoyed outdoors: soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, and tennis, just to name a few. Check with your local community centre and find out what sport team opportunities are available and of interest to you.
Have fun under the sun, but don’t forget to be safe. Wear sunscreen, drink plenty of water, and take breaks in-between strenuous activities.
